Barriers - A War Poem

What is war?

It is one of those barriers erected by humans,

Which shows how much man

Hates man, and causes

Brothers to take up arms ’gainst each other.

The beauty of Nature marred and destroyed,

And the face of Earth

Scarred and stained with innocent blood;

While mothers shed futile tears

On the mutilated corpses of their sons.

What are nations?

Merely a barrier erected by humans;

There is one Earth,

But men cut her up into fragments

For their satisfaction and

Convenience.

Physical boundaries

Sufficient to create bad blood;

And Mother Earth’s pleas ignored.

What is religion?

Another barrier between humans,

Making them spite each other.

There is one God, and religions

Are path traversed by man to reach Him.

Some walk fast and straight,

Others wander, dawdle, stroll, meander.

Two men can never be identical

And neither the religion they profess.

Who are terrorists?

A group of people building barriers between humans;

Why do they create unrest

In the world?

They are not different from men-

So why should man kill man?

Are they hungry for blood?

Is that why they shed gallons of it?

They are a plethora of uncouth voices

Clamouring for attention.

What is money?

Nothing but a barrier between humans;

Pieces of paper

Those who have it are called ‘rich’,

And those who don’t

Are exploited and called names,

Looked down upon as ‘poor’.

A conspiracy

By unknown forces

To make men jealous,

Suspicious and selfish.

Oh, all these human barriers-

Time has demolished a few,

But most remain, and many more

Are constructed each day.

The future looks bleak

And claustrophobic…
